New Events and website additions!

Those who visit the website frequently may have noticed that we’ve made a lot of changes! The site has been revamped, re-themed and now users can track steam stats for the BurningLAN Steam group from any page on the web-site.

Additionally, a forum for the site has been developed using BBpress. This means that a user account made for the BurningLAN site will be usable for forum login as well. It is our hope that the forum will provide a better way for attendees to keep in touch, ask questions and remain informed regarding upcoming events.

New Events!

There was recently a poll on the site asking users if they’d like to see more big events instead of the recent free-play events. The results showed a large interest in a bigger event with bigger prizes and we’ve listened.

We’ve secured the date of June 25th for BurningLAN’s next big event. Expect lots of prizes including a large cash prize to the winners of a 5 v 5 Counter-Strike: Source tornament!

As for BurningLAN’s free-play events, don’t expect to see them disappear! We’ve had a lot of fun throwing them and have had even greater feedback of late. The next free-play event is scheduled for March 26th. Admission will remain cheap at $10, so add it to your calendar! More information will be available via forum.

Thanks to everyone who made our January 1st event possible! It was a great night and I hope everyone had as great a time as myself.

As always, we welcome any feedback. So, please leave comments regarding what you liked and what could be improved regarding our event. Additionally, there is a poll in the sidebar regarding whether people would like to see more $5 free-play events or would be willing to pay more for tournaments with prizes.

Lastly, Brandon Diehl made a great time-lapse of the event.

New & Improved

So we’ve been shopping around, trying to find a few things to make the event that much better. You know, we figured maybe some new mousepads or a banner or… whatever. As it turns out, we’ve almost entirely revamped our network infrastructure.

Due to the untimely demise of one of our core switches, I was forced to go out and get a new one. Now, as you probably know, eBay can be an addicting beast. Luckily, though, I’m a good shopper. I ended up with a new Dell PowerConnect 5324, a redundant power supply for it, a Cisco 1760 router (now we have two!), a portable rack to hold all of our servers and other equipment, and SIX (6) Dell PowerConnect 3024 edge switches – the one’s you connect to. This will increase our speeds and overall network capability tenfold from our previous setup(s). Sweet, right?

Offline LAN Event: December 4th

It’s that time again!

We snatched up the church for use on December 4th, from 8:00pm-8:00am! Excited? Us too.

This will be a very cheap event. Five bucks will get you in for a night of free play, file sharing, and maybe even a tournament or two.

Interested? Keep your eyes on this post. We’re in the process of building a registration form (if you didn’t notice, our site’s a bit… desolate).
